From the landof the accordion
For Roberto Lucanero, the accordion has been the gateway that has enabled him to link the past, the present and the future - his family’s and his own. An emblematic incident occurred in his second year at school. When a teacher, a nun, asked, “if you want to start an accordion course please raise your hand”, he raised his hand, without too much thinking “as a child of seven does”. From that moment on, the accordion has been a guide, a “route” to return to his roots: to his grandfather, Vittorio Incontri, at first an accordion restorer and then a maker of accordions; his great-grandfather, Giorgio, who used to alternate his work in the fields with making hand made reeds for accordion; to his mother, who would be called upon to play for potential buyers; to his father, who as a young man had worked as an artisan making reeds for accordion in the workshop of the great Nazzareno Binci.
